A tired garden once designed by Rosemary Verey, lovingly restored…
The Brief
Having been asked to offer advice on this once beautiful, but now rather tired, garden near Burford, we came up with a traditional range of perennials to provide a cottage style planting scheme. We wanted to stay true to Rosemary Verey’s original vision.
We set about removing all the existing perennials and mass of weeds, whilst retaining a few decent roses and Hydrangea Annabel. These borders were dug over, with compost added to increase their fertility.
Our choice of perennials consisted of Gaura, Salvia, Geranium, Ammi, Sedum, Alchemilla and many more. Our aim was to create an informal, airy planting style which would soften the formal layout of the garden and cover all available space. Great for keeping weeds under control, retaining moisture in the soil and attracting a wide range of insects and pollinators.
We feel we have added new life to this garden and yet retained its charm and character.
